Fidi Grube

Fidi (Fidy) Grube was a talented dancer who rose to fame in the 1920s of Weimar Berlin dancing alongside Kathleen (Kitty) Zammit and toured Europe. The dancing team of Zammit and Grube was most certainly one of the best and most successful of all German dancing teams in the 1920s and early 1930s.

The fashionable Barbarina tanzpalast or night-club was situated at 18 Hardenbergstrasse in the Charlottenberg district of Berlin and was allegedly founded in 1921. It became one of the most prestigious  of all dance-restaurants in Berlin in the Jazz Age of the 1920s.

The ‘Boudoir’ Doll Craze

During the Jazz age, Europe and America were immersed in a ‘doll craze’. By the mid 1920s, all smart women had to have a ‘poupee’ doll and they were seen everywhere. They were not played with but were decorative or used as an accessory and took many different forms with a huge range of styles and costumes.
